Goals of Mountain Justice
- Raise world-wide awareness of Mountain Top Removal mining and its effects.
- Escalate resistance to Mountain Top Removal from a regional to a national level.
- Build our support base for the campaign.
- Unify and strengthen regional groups fighting Mountain Top Removal.
- Mobilize coordinated days of action using tactics ranging from public outreach to civil resistance.
- Maintain safety as a high priority.
- Debunk the myth of "clean coal" and "jobs versus the environment".
- Encourage conservation, efficiency, solar and wind energy as alternatives to Mountain Top Removal and all forms of surface mining.
First coming together in 1965, the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy is one of the state's oldest environmental activist organizations. With the increased awareness of environmental issues in the 1960s, a coalition of recreational users of the West Virginia Highlands came together to address a whole host of environmental threats to our state. Over the past 40 years, the Highlands Conservancy has continued to be the leader in protecting the natural environment of our state through both defensive and offensive campaigns.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the only independent 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers. Since our founding 40 years ago, our goal has been to improve water quality by reducing pollution. Our motto, Save the Bay, has been the battle cry for that goal."
